1896 Victorian Rose Gold Gate Bracelet with Padlock
Beautiful antique Victorian 9ct rose gold padlock gate bracelet.
The widest gate bracelet I have had the pleasure of selling. She is 24mm wide and consists of small links together producing a panther link or mesh type design. She is a day and night design, where she can be worn on either side. On one side all the links are polished, on the other side some of the links have a lovely textured finish, these are situated in a rhombus shape surrounded by the polished links. She is a gorgeous old rose gold colour, she could be worn with either rose or yellow gold jewellery.
The large heart padlock is hallmarked for the maker, it was assayed as 9 carat gold in 1896 in Birmingham, UK. The bracelet itself is not hallmarked, but has been tested as 9ct gold. The padlock closes nice and securely and I have had a new safety chain installed on her for additional safety.
Heart padlocks were often gifted as a symbol of love or given to loved ones before long periods of separation as a reminder of the giver's love.
The links themselves are in excellent antique condition, I can't find any dents and that as well as the substantial weight of 40 grams leads me to believe they are solid. One link has some slight discoloration to it, which may of been from a repair or maybe from rubbing on something, but this is not noticeable when worn.
She comes with an independent professional valuation for $18,000. She is a nice substantial weight and a good length and is in very good antique condition. A very beautiful wear every day bracelet.
