Victorian Sterling Silver & Rose Gold "MIZPAH" Anchor Brooch
A really gorgeous Victorian antique sterling silver anchor brooch with gold plated detailing and the word "MIZPAH" in a heart.
Consisting of a beautiful sterling silver anchor with rose gold plated leaves, flowers and a plaque as well as the word MIZPAH. She looks quite delicate, however she is in excellent condition with no dents. She has a pin on the back which holds her nice and secure, it also has a lovely sized ring at the top to clip her to a chain.
Mizpah was often inscribed on Victorian jewellery, it is a Hebrew word meaning "watchtower" and is mentioned in the bible in story of Jacob and Laban (Genesis), where they erected a pile of stones as a sign of their covenant, with God as their witness. Mizpah jewelry, particularly rings and brooches, became popular during the Victorian era as a way to express an emotional bond between two people, often those who were separated. Some people use the word "Mizpah" to describe the emotional bonds that are never broken, even when people are separated by distance or time.
She would make a beautiful addition to an outfit worn as a brooch but I would have the pin taken off and wear her as a pendant. This could be done for minimal cost.
What an amazingly beautiful piece.
