1908 Edwardian 9ct Rose Gold Monogrammed Sovereign Case
A gorgeous antique 9ct rose gold single sovereign case, with beautiful hand chased engraving to both the front and back, monogrammed, ready to be worn as a pendant on your favourite necklace.
A sovereign holder was used by a gentleman to carry gold sovereigns. It would have been connected to a watch chain and kept in a waistcoat pocket. This one is a stunning example.
She is a lovely old rose gold colour and has beautiful hand chased engraving to both her front and rear. On the front is a shield shape with a beautiful hand engraved monogram, I believe it is "JBA". She opens via a button on her top and to close her you press the same. The catch is very secure.
She is hallmarked for her maker but unfortunately it is only partially visible and I haven't been able to identify who it was, she was assayed as 9ct gold in Chester in the UK in 1908. She is also engraved with the date 14th July 1910.
She is in good antique condition, she has obviously been well loved over her 118 years, she did have an indent to her front, where she was held to open and close her, I have had my jeweller reshape this, there is also a patch on the inside of her lid that looks like it is a different gold colour, I'm not quite sure what it is but it may of been to try and strengthen her lid a little bit. The split pin holding her bale to the knob at the top looks to be base metal rather than gold. This would of been original, gold wasn't generally used as it is too soft. None of the above is obvious when she is worn.
She is quite dainty for a sovereign holder so is easy to wear. She looks stunning clipped to a watch chain or even worn on a modern gold chain. This is an amazing collectible piece of history. A real statement piece!
