French Antique Art Deco Diamond and Sapphire Ring
A very impressive French made, Art Deco, 18 carat yellow and white gold diamond and sapphire ring.
A beautifully proportioned ring with hand cut diamonds and sapphires. The centre diamond is an Old Mine cut of 0.42ct with the slightest yellow tinge, she is of amazing clarity for an old hand cut diamond, with no eye visible inclusions. She also has a spectacular high domed top. She is claw set in 18ct white gold and surrounded with a halo of rose cut diamonds and calibre cut sapphires set in white and yellow gold. She has another two rose cut diamonds set in white gold on each shoulder with a yellow gold double illusion band.
Calibre cut refers to faceted gemstones that are carefully custom cut to the point that they line up perfectly together. These ones are channel set so that they fit perfectly with no joins.
The setting is in good antique condition, she looks like she has had her claws retipped in the not too distant past. She has a french hallmark and a maker's mark of "MD", she is not stamped for 18ct, but my jeweller has tested her. The stones show some signs of wear commensurate with age, this is only seen under magnification and doesn't detract from her beauty in any way.
This is a very special antique ring, she comes with an independent replacement valuation for $6,870, this is to have her remade, not to buy a similar antique version. She is sizeable, within limits.
