1898 Sterling Silver Graduated Curb Link Albert Watch Chain with Medallion
An very special sterling silver graduated curb link, single Albert watch chain with an impressive and gorgeous medallion.
This chain and medal are stunning. I was not surprised to see it hallmarked for Charles Daniel Broughton of St Paul's Square, Birmingham UK. It is a beautifully made chain, graduated from the centre down to each end, it is very chunky, but is not overwhelming. I was surprised to see a date stamp for 1898 as she is in such amazing condition. The chain has hallmarks all over her that match the fob. The dog clip looks to be a replacement, but is hallmarked for sterling silver.
The medal is a stunner as well, it is hallmarked for Herbert Bushell of Northhampton Street Birmingham UK, a well renowned silversmith. It was assayed in 1913. It is double sided which is extremely rare and has a central raised cartouche on both sides. surrounded by flowers and foliage, some of which is highlighted by cut out sections and hand chasing.
This chain was a little short when I received her, but I have "rearranged" her to make her a more wearable length. I really like her length as she doesn't disappear under shirts. She is really lovely quality and is nice and weighty, and in excellent condition for a chain of her age. A beautiful wear everyday statement piece.
